Singapore Hosts the 5th ASEAN Air Chiefs Conference

Minister for Defence Mr Teo Chee Hean officiated at the 5th ASEAN Air Chiefs Conference (AACC) in Singapore this morning.
The AACC plays an important role in enhancing peace and stability in the region, and in promoting greater integration and partnership among the ASEAN Air Forces It also serves as a useful platform for the ASEAN Air Force Chiefs to meet regularly to discuss issues of common professional interests. The theme for the 5th AACC was “Partners in Peace and Security”. All ten ASEAN member countries attended the conference. The participants discussed a range of security issues including the threat of terrorism facing the region and opportunities for co-operation between the ASEAN Air Forces.
During the conference, a Declaration of Support for ASEAN Air Forces Co-operation in Addressing Terrorism was signed. This agreement reaffirms the commitment of all the ASEAN Air Forces to fight terrorism together, by striving to assist one another through measures such as training, technical cooperation and information sharing.
The 5th AACC was hosted by the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) and held in conjunction with the inaugural Singapore Airshow 2008. Previous AACCs were held in Thailand (2004), Malaysia (2005), Indonesia (2006) and Philippines (2007).
