WASHINGTON, Aug. 18, 2010 — Iraqi security forces killed a terrorism suspect and detained seven others in operations over the last two days in Iraq, military officials reported.
In Mansuriyah today, Iraqi forces working with U.S. advisors were searching for a suspected al-Qaida in Iraq member who allegedly has worked closely with the organization’s leadership in Diyala province to supply weapons and explosives to terrorists.
As the combined force moved toward the targeted building, a man with an assault rifle tried to engage them and was shot and killed. During the exchange, a man suffered a gunshot wound to his arm when he was struck by a ricochet bullet, and he received immediate medical attention.
Information and evidence gathered at the scene led Iraqi forces to identify and arrest four suspected al-Qaida in Iraq criminal associates.
Also today, Iraqi forces working with U.S. advisors arrested a Promised Day Brigade leader who allegedly supplies and transports weapons in Diyala province, along with a suspected criminal associate.
In Latafia yesterday, Iraqi forces and U.S. advisors searching for a suspected al-Qaida in Iraq leader who allegedly is involved in vehicle-borne bomb attacks identified and arrested a suspected criminal associate of the wanted man.
