WASHINGTON, Aug. 4, 2010 — Iraqi security forces arrested three suspects with ties to al-Qaida in Iraq in recent operations, military officials reported.
Iraqi forces working with U.S. advisors in southwestern Baghdad were looking today for a suspected al-Qaida in Iraq leader who allegedly is responsible for facilitating vehicle-borne bombing attacks. He also is believed to have close ties to senior members of the terrorist organization. Iraqi forces identified and arrested a suspected criminal associate of the wanted man.
In northern Iraq’s Tamim province yesterday, Iraqi forces working with U.S. advisors arrested a suspected al-Qaida in Iraq weapons facilitator and a suspected criminal associate.
