Iraq — Iraqi Forces Arrest 3 Suspected of Helping Terrorists

WASHINGTON — Iraqi secu­ri­ty forces, with U.S. advi­sors, have arrest­ed three sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciates of ter­ror­ist groups oper­at­ing in Iraq, mil­i­tary offi­cials said.

Iraqi forces arrest­ed a sus­pect­ed asso­ciate of the Kataib Hezbal­lah ter­ror­ist net­work today dur­ing a com­bined secu­ri­ty oper­a­tion in Baghdad. 

Iraqi forces and their U.S. advi­sors searched a build­ing with a court war­rant for a mem­ber of the group sus­pect­ed in attacks against Iraqi and U.S. forces. Infor­ma­tion and evi­dence gath­ered at the scene led them to iden­ti­fy and arrest a sus­pect­ed asso­ciate of the want­ed man. 

On Aug. 4, Iraqi forces arrest­ed two sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq crim­i­nal asso­ciates near Tikrit. 

Iraqi forces, work­ing with U.S. advi­sors, searched sev­er­al build­ings with a court war­rant for a sus­pect­ed al_Qaida in Iraq leader respon­si­ble for bomb­ing attacks against Iraqi and U.S. forces. Infor­ma­tion and evi­dence gath­ered at the scene led Iraqi forces to iden­ti­fy and arrest two suspects.
