Iraq — Iraqi Forces Arrest 10 al-Qaida in Iraq Associates

WASHINGTON, July 30, 2010 — Iraqi secu­ri­ty forces arrest­ed 10 sus­pect­ed asso­ciates of the al-Qai­da in Iraq ter­ror­ist orga­ni­za­tion in sev­er­al oper­a­tions today, mil­i­tary offi­cials report­ed.

Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors searched sev­er­al build­ings in Mansuriyah for a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­ber who alleged­ly is respon­si­ble for build­ing and emplac­ing bombs that attach mag­net­i­cal­ly to vehi­cles. Infor­ma­tion and evi­dence gath­ered at the scene led Iraqi forces to iden­ti­fy and arrest four sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciates of the want­ed man. 

In Ghaz­a­li­ah, Iraqi forces and U.S. advi­sors arrest­ed two sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciates while search­ing for a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq leader who alleged­ly is respon­si­ble for recruit­ing and induct­ing new mem­bers into the ter­ror­ist organization. 

Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors in Tarmiyah arrest­ed four sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq crim­i­nal asso­ciates while search­ing for a sus­pect­ed financier for the ter­ror­ist group who also alleged­ly is respon­si­ble for plant­i­ng road­side bombs tar­get­ing Iraqi and coali­tion forces.
