WASHINGTON — I’m pleased to pass on some good news. America will officially recognize the contributions of military widows for the first time with “Gold Star Wives Day.”
A Senate resolution has designated Dec. 18 as a day to honor the contributions of the members of the Gold Star Wives of America Inc. The group, founded in 1945, includes about 10,000 members, and provides service, support and friendship to the widows and widowers of military personnel who died on active duty or as the result of a service-connected cause.
Read more about the resolution and an interview with the group’s president in C. Todd Lopez’s Army News Service article “Senate Resolution Designates Gold Star Wives Day.”
