Combined Forces Detain Multiple Insurgents

WASHINGTON, Sept. 8, 2011 — A com­bined Afghan and coali­tion secu­ri­ty force detained sev­er­al sus­pect­ed insur­gents and wound­ed one yes­ter­day while search­ing for a Tal­iban leader in Nan­garhar province, Afghanistan.

The want­ed man is�suspected of�supplying weapons and plan­ning attacks against Afghan forces in the Jalal­abad district. 

One of the sus­pect­ed insur­gents was shot dur­ing the oper­a­tion. After receiv­ing med­ical treat­ment for his wounds, which were not life threat­en­ing, he was detained by secu­ri­ty forces for fur­ther questioning. 

In oth­er Inter­na­tion­al Secu­ri­ty Assis­tance Force news from Afghanistan yesterday: 

— A com­bined Afghan and coali­tion secu­ri­ty force detained two sus­pect­ed insur­gents and seized bomb-mak­ing mate­ri­als while search­ing for a Tal­iban leader in the Kun­duz dis­trict of Kun­duz province. 

— In the Arghandab dis­trict of Kan­da­har province, a com­bined secu­ri­ty force detained mul­ti­ple sus­pect­ed insur­gents while search­ing for a Tal­iban leader respon­si­ble for plan­ning and exe­cut­ing road­side bomb attacks against Afghan forces. 

— A com­bined force detained sev­er­al sus­pect­ed insur­gents and seized bomb-mak­ing mate­ri­als while search­ing for a Tal­iban leader in the Nad ‘Ali dis­trict of Hel­mand province. The leader is a road­side bomb expert who con­ducts attacks against Afghan forces and sup­plies lethal aid to Tal­iban fighters. 

— A com­bined force detained a Haqqani Net­work leader and a sus­pect­ed insur­gent in the Khost dis­trict of Khost province. The leader coor­di­nat­ed indi­rect fire attacks against coali­tion forces, and trans­port­ed road­side bombs and rockets.
