Combined Force Captures Taliban Leader

KABUL, Afghanistan, March 27, 2012 — A com­bined Afghan and coali­tion secu­ri­ty force cap­tured a Tal­iban leader dur­ing an oper­a­tion in the Maid­an Shar dis­trict of Afghanistan’s War­dak province today, mil­i­tary offi­cials report­ed.

The leader orga­nized attacks against Afghan and coali­tion secu­ri­ty forces in the dis­trict, offi­cials said. The secu­ri­ty force also seized a shotgun. 

In oth­er Afghanistan oper­a­tions today: 

— A com­bined force cap­tured a Tal­iban facil­i­ta­tor and detained two sus­pects in the Zharay dis­trict of Kan­da­har province. The facil­i­ta­tor pro­vid­ed weapons and road­side bombs to insur­gents for attacks against Afghan and coali­tion secu­ri­ty forces. 

— A com­bined force cap­tured a Haqqani net­work leader and detained two sus­pects in the Sabari dis­trict of Khost province. The leader dis­trib­uted road­side bombs to insur­gents and coor­di­nat­ed attacks against Afghan and coali­tion secu­ri­ty forces. 

— In the Bara­ki Barak dis­trict of Log­ar province, a com­bined force cap­tured a Tal­iban leader who direct­ed road­side bomb­ings and oth­er attacks against Afghan and coali­tion secu­ri­ty forces. 

— A com­bined force detained two sus­pects while search­ing for a Haqqani facil­i­ta­tor in the Sha­rana dis­trict of Pak­ti­ka province. The facil­i­ta­tor pro­vides weapons for insur­gent attacks against Afghan and coali­tion secu­ri­ty forces. 

In an oper­a­tion yes­ter­day, an Afghan provin­cial response com­pa­ny advised by coali­tion forces found and destroyed numer­ous rock­et-pro­pelled grenade rounds and mul­ti­ple recoil­less rifle rounds in the Achin dis­trict of Nan­garhar province.
