Singapore, May 30 – Clarion Events is hosting UDT Asia on 30 November – 1 December 2011. The event brings together the undersea defence community in Asia, featuring top regional naval speakers, who will be addressing the latest underwater requirements for Asian navies.
According to AMI International, research has shown that over the next 5 years in the Asia Pacific region an estimated USD $60bn is expected to be spent on naval systems with the majority looking at submarines and surface ships with ASW capabilities. Submarines are expected to take up 22% of the total market share and surface ships with ASW capabilities taking up 10%. The remaining 68% will be taken up with larger naval platform acquisitions including corvettes, frigates and multipurpose amphibious ships for maritime security and civil and humanitarian aid. In total research indicates over USD $19bn spent on the underwater environment.
Furthermore, AMI International says that regional navies are expected to acquire a total of 841 vessels by 2016. Of these, 83 will be submarines together with more than 80 amphibious vessels that are expected to be purchased during the same period.
At UDT Asia, the acquisition of undersea fleets including strategic perspectives on plans, policy, doctrinal and advanced procurement issues will be discussed and the future direction defined. Given the diversity of possible missions in the shallow-water and near-shore littoral zones, the potential threats from forces on land, any ship designed for these tasks must be both versatile, stealthy and above all within budget. COTs have emerged as a viable alternative to ensure open system architecture and training for decision making responsibility remains a priority.
The conference at UDT Asia will reflect these changing maritime trends and will embrace a broad spectrum of undersea maritime security including changes in concepts of operations and the increased role for unmanned vehicles. It also will look at the naval requirements and the technology that can fulfil these needs.
According to Amo Mostofi, General Manager, Clarion Events Asia, “The primary objective of this conference is to allow regional navies to educate industry on their current and future requirements and express their most pressing challenges. We have planned morning keynotes from regional flag officers who will ‘set the scene’ for the rest of the conference where technical, operational and strategic presentations will be given from industry, academia and military.” He added further “UDT Asia has significant pedigree and we’re delighted to be able to provide this forum for the Asian undersea naval sector.”
