BAE Systems Receives U.S. Air Force Contract to Support Silver Fox Unmanned Aircraft Systems

ROCKVILLE, Mary­land — BAE Sys­tems has received a U.S. Air Force con­tract of $3.9 mil­lion to pro­vide engi­neer­ing, train­ing, and oth­er ser­vices for the con­tin­ued use of the company’s Sil­ver Fox unmanned air­craft sys­tems. The Sil­ver Fox air­craft sup­ports mil­i­tary oper­a­tions dur­ing intel­li­gence, sur­veil­lance, and recon­nais­sance mis­sions.

“This con­tract is vital to sup­port­ing the warfight­er,” said Gor­don Eldridge, act­ing vice pres­i­dent and gen­er­al man­ag­er of aero­space solu­tions at BAE Sys­tems. “The Sil­ver Fox sys­tems have demon­strat­ed their val­ue with real time intel­li­gence that has saved lives.” 

Each Sil­ver Fox is a gas/­elec­tric-pow­ered unmanned sys­tem, weigh­ing about 30 pounds. It can car­ry elec­tro-opti­cal and infrared sen­sors, pro­vid­ing full-motion imagery for both day and night oper­a­tions. The Sil­ver Fox car­ries small pay­loads and per­forms autonomous take­offs and landings. 

The con­tract was award­ed by the Air Force Research Lab­o­ra­to­ry, based at Wright-Pat­ter­son Air Force Base in Ohio. BAE Sys­tems employ­ees will pro­vide ser­vices that include sys­tems main­te­nance, engi­neer­ing, and analy­sis, as well as logis­tics sup­port and on-the-job train­ing for Sil­ver Fox operators.
