Afghanistan — ISAF Helps Afghans Search for Missing Passenger Aircraft

KABUL, Afghanistan, May 17, 2010 — The Inter­na­tion­al Secu­ri­ty Assis­tance Force is help­ing Afghan author­i­ties in their search for a civil­ian pas­sen­ger air­craft that was report­ed miss­ing today.

Accord­ing to news reports, 44 peo­ple were aboard the miss­ing aircraft. 

An ISAF fixed-wing air­craft has been dis­patched to the last known posi­tion of the miss­ing plane, offi­cials said, but poor weath­er con­di­tions in the area are ham­per­ing the aer­i­al search. 

Two ISAF heli­copters are en route to the area. Oth­er ISAF heli­copters are on stand­by at Bagram Air­field and Kab­ul Inter­na­tion­al Air­port to assist in any res­cue effort, offi­cials said.
