The Australian Defence Force congratulates the Commander of the Afghan National Army (ANA) 4th Brigade, Brigadier General Abdul Hamid, on his promotion and appointment as Commander of the ANA 205 Atal (Hero) Corps.
Australian soldiers and civilians have worked closely with Brigadier General Hamid and the 4th Brigade over a number of years.
The Chief of Joint Operations, Lieutenant General Mark Evans, said the promotion was well deserved and the ANA’s 205 Corps will benefit from Brigadier General Hamid’s experience.
“The Commander leaves the 4th Brigade having overseen significant progress in its development,” said Lieutenant General Evans.
“The Brigade’s kandaks are now capable of conducting a wide range of partnered and mentored operations and are proceeding as planned on a path to independent security responsibilities.”
“We wish him every success with the aptly named Hero Corps, which has shouldered a large burden in providing security in southern Afghanistan,” Lieutenant General Evans said.
The Australian Defence Force welcomes Brigadier General Zafar Khan as General Hamid’s replacement as Commander of the ANA 4th Brigade. Brigadier General Zafar has a long military history and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that will benefit the 4th Brigade.
The 205 Corps has brigades in Kandahar, Zabul, and Uruzgan provinces.
