WASHINGTON, May 10, 2010 — Iraqi forces working with U.S. advisors arrested a suspected vehicle bomber and four accused extortionists in Iraq in recent days, military officials reported.
Iraqi forces arrested a suspected al-Qaida in Iraq member during a combined May 7 operation about 70 miles northeast of Baghdad. The suspect is believed to have ties to vehicle-bomb attacks and high-level al-Qaida in Iraq leaders in Diyala province.
On May 6, Iraqi forces in search of a suspected al-Qaida in Iraq extortion leader arrested four suspected al-Qaida in Iraq members during a combined operation in eastern Mosul.
Information and evidence gathered at the scene led Iraqi forces to identify and arrest four associates of the wanted man.
