Afghanistan — Troops in Afghanistan Detain Militants, Find Weapons

KABUL, April 14, 2010 — Afghan and inter­na­tion­al forces detained sev­er­al sus­pect­ed mil­i­tants and seized weapons stock­piles in recent Afghanistan oper­a­tions, mil­i­tary offi­cials report­ed.

— An Afghan-inter­na­tion­al force pur­su­ing a Haqqani ter­ror­ist net­work facil­i­ta­tor in Ghazni province detained two sus­pect­ed mil­i­tants this morning. 

— In Pak­tia province’s Orgun dis­trict last night, a com­bined force detained a few sus­pect­ed mil­i­tants for fur­ther ques­tion­ing after a search prompt­ed by intel­li­gence information. 

— Afghan forces in Kab­ul province’s Bagra­mi dis­trict found 34 rock­et-pro­pelled grenades yesterday. 

— In Hel­mand province’s Nad‑e Ali dis­trict yes­ter­day, an Afghan civil­ian turned in a home­made bomb con­tain­ing more than 10 pounds of explo­sives to mem­bers of the Inter­na­tion­al Secu­ri­ty Assis­tance Force. 

— Also yes­ter­day, an Afghan army patrol in the Muqer dis­trict of Ghazni province found a home­made bomb con­sist­ing of two rock­et-pro­pelled grenades, a 72 mm artillery shell and home­made explosives. 

— In Pak­ti­ka province’s Zarghun Shahr dis­trict yes­ter­day, an Afghan patrol found a bomb made from four 100 mm artillery rounds. An ISAF explo­sive ord­nance dis­pos­al team destroyed it. 

No shots were fired, and no Afghan civil­ians were harmed dur­ing these oper­a­tions, offi­cials said.
