Raytheon Awarded $254 Million US Navy Contract for DDG 1000

TEWKSBURY, Mass., Dec. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Raytheon Com­pa­ny (NYSE: RTN) has been award­ed a $254 mil­lion con­tract mod­i­fi­ca­tion for the com­ple­tion of soft­ware devel­op­ment for the DDG 1000-class destroy­er program.

Under the con­tract, Raytheon Inte­grat­ed Defense Sys­tems (IDS) will per­form devel­op­ment engi­neer­ing activ­i­ties for Total Ship Com­put­ing Envi­ron­ment Infra­struc­ture inte­gra­tion, ship con­trol sys­tems, as well as asso­ci­at­ed Mis­sion Sys­tems Equip­ment soft­ware devel­op­ment and integration.

The con­tract mod­i­fi­ca­tion includes devel­op­ment, test and deliv­ery of DDG 1000 Total Ship Com­put­ing Envi­ron­ment (TSCE) soft­ware for Self Defense Test Ship, post-deliv­ery avail­abil­i­ty, post-shake­down avail­abil­i­ty, SPY‑3 vol­ume search soft­ware and firmware devel­op­ment, as well as soft­ware main­te­nance in sup­port of the Zumwalt-class destroy­er program. 

Raytheon’s TSCE encom­pass­es all ship­board com­put­ing appli­ca­tions, includ­ing the com­bat man­age­ment sys­tem; com­mand, con­trol, com­mu­ni­ca­tions, com­put­ers and intel­li­gence ele­ments; ship machin­ery con­trol sys­tems; dam­age con­trol; embed­ded train­ing; and sup­port sys­tems. The sys­tem lever­ages a mod­ern open sys­tem archi­tec­ture that pro­vides a scal­able plat­form for cost-effi­cient deliv­ery of new mis­sion capability.

Under the Navy’s DDG 1000 Detail Design and Inte­gra­tion con­tract award­ed in 2005, Raytheon IDS serves as the prime mis­sion sys­tems equip­ment inte­gra­tor for all elec­tron­ic and com­bat sys­tems for the DDG 1000 pro­gram. Work­ing with the Navy and a team of indus­try lead­ers, Raytheon is lead­ing the effort to trans­form the Navy’s ship require­ments to real­i­ty. Work on the DDG 1000 pro­gram is per­formed by more than 800 Raytheon employ­ees, as well as by approx­i­mate­ly 1,800 sub­con­trac­tors and sup­pli­er part­ners in 43 states across the country.
