KABUL, Afghanistan, Dec. 13, 2011 — A combined Afghan and coalition security force found a drug cache in the Maiwand district of Afghanistan’s Kandahar province today, military officials reported.
The cache contained about 500 pounds of hashish. The hashish was destroyed.
In other Afghanistan operations today:
— A combined force discovered a drug cache containing 200 pounds of marijuana in the Panjwa’I district of Kandahar province. The marijuana was destroyed.
— A combined force captured a Taliban facilitator in the Dand district of Kandahar province. The facilitator travelled to and from Pakistan, providing insurgent groups with explosives and supplies for use in attacks across the region.
— A combined force detained several suspected insurgents while searching for a Taliban leader in the Daman district of Kandahar province. The leader conducts attacks against Afghan forces and distributes explosives throughout Kandahar province.
— In the Sabari district of Khost province, a combined force detained three suspected insurgents and seized several weapons while searching for a Haqqani leader. The leader conducts attacks on Afghan forces and coordinates the movement of bomb-making materials. In Afghanistan operations yesterday:
— A combined patrol found a weapons cache containing six rocket-propelled grenades, one 82mm mortar round, 11 RPG rockets and 13 anti-tank mines in the Bagram district of Parwan province.
