Afghanistan — Special Forces soldier injured in a vehicle accident

An Aus­tralian sol­dier with the Spe­cial Oper­a­tions Task Group is recu­per­at­ing at the Role 3 Med­ical Facil­i­ty in Kan­da­har, after his vehi­cle rolled over dur­ing oper­a­tions in North­ern Kan­da­har Province, Afghanistan on the 14th of Octo­ber.

The sol­dier received imme­di­ate first aid from his mates, before being aero med­ical­ly evac­u­at­ed to Kan­da­har, where he under­went treat­ment. Defence can con­firm the vehi­cle acci­dent was not the result of ene­my action and no oth­er local nation­als, Afghan or Aus­tralian sol­diers were injured in the acci­dent. Com­man­der of Joint Task Force 633, Major Gen­er­al John Cantwell, said as soon as the acci­dent occurred, the injured soldier’s mates were at his side ren­der­ing assistance. 

“The injured sol­dier received the best pos­si­ble first aid in the field and con­tin­ued to be treat­ed by first rate med­ical prac­ti­tion­ers at Kan­da­har,” Major Gen­er­al Cantwell said. 

Due to med­ical-in-con­fi­dence and the sol­diers pro­tect­ed iden­ti­ty, fur­ther details about the sol­dier and his injuries can­not be disclosed. 

The sol­dier is expect­ed to make full recov­ery and return to duty in the near future. 

This infor­ma­tion was not released on 14 Octo­ber to pro­tect the secu­ri­ty of an on-going operation.
