Iraq — Iraqi Forces Arrest 6 Terrorism Suspects

WASHINGTON, July 29, 2010 — Iraqi secu­ri­ty forces arrest­ed six peo­ple affil­i­at­ed with the al-Qai­da in Iraq ter­ror­ism orga­ni­za­tion in com­bined oper­a­tions with U.S. advi­sors yes­ter­day, mil­i­tary offi­cials report­ed.

In south­west­ern Bagh­dad, Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors searched sev­er­al build­ings for a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­ber who alleged­ly has close ties to the organization’s senior lead­er­ship. Infor­ma­tion and evi­dence gath­ered at the scene led Iraqi forces to iden­ti­fy and arrest three sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciates of the want­ed man. 

In Haw­i­jah, Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors cap­tured a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq leader who alleged­ly is involved in coor­di­nat­ing and plant­i­ng road­side bombs. 

Dur­ing a sep­a­rate oper­a­tion in Bagh­dad, Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors cap­tured a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­ber who alleged­ly facil­i­tates bring­ing for­eign fight­ers into Iraq. 

In west­ern Mosul, Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors arrest­ed a sus­pect­ed asso­ciate of a want­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq leader who alleged­ly plans attacks on Iraqi and coali­tion forces.
